Azeb Mesfin, widow of the late PM Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia, attends a book launch ceremony in Addis Ababa. The newly launched books are both written in Tigrigna, home tongue of Meles Zenawi and Azeb Mesfin.
At the ceremony held at The Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel, the author made remarks on the contents of the books. The two books were written by author and journalist Hasset Fisseha. The books detail on the story of the TPLF from 1975 to 2001.
The ceremony was attended by TPLF fighters, invited guests, government authorities, and Azeb Mesfin. Meles Zenawi would have enjoyed reading these books. May God rest his soul in peace.
Watch the Amharic report in the video below:
Dear W/ro Azeb Mesfin:
I have a lot of respect for you, our former First Lady, and for your contribution for the betterment of Ethiopia through the days of the armed struggle and later after victory. The loss of your husband Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, who was perhaps Ethiopia’s greatest leader in history, was also the loss of every Ethiopian and African, especially of those who loved and admired him. I cannot even begin to imagine how hard it must have been on you to accept his passing away knowing that many of us still find it difficult to believe that he has passed away–because, in truth, he has not. He continues to live in our mist through his great achievements in the political and economic fronts–not of only Ethiopia, but of Africa at large. He was the most respected African leader of the 21st century who raised Africa’s stakes in the global arena. As sudden and shocking his death was, such a great personality cannot truly die. As the old Ethiopian adage goes, “A hero gets to be born, but does not get to die.”
In light of that, I ask your permission to give you my humble opinion regarding your public appearance: While your bereavement is understandable and has been deeply touching to all of us, it is probably time to celebrate the life and achievements of this great leader for your personal good and for the good of the nation at large.
May God bless you and your family.
May God bless Ethiopia.
Yours,
Lou Kahssay
