ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 5, 2013 — Ethiopian Airline will host the African Aviation 22nd Annual Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) international conference and exhibition here from Feb 25 to 27, the national flag carrier says.

Ethiopian said in a statement Tuesday that more than 250 participants from all over the world, including airlines, aircraft manufacturers, component suppliers and other industry stakeholders were expected to attend the conference.

“Ethiopian is delighted to host this major conference, which will provide a unique platform for all the key parties to showcase their services and explore opportunities for MRO partnerships and joint ventures,” the statement said, quoting the airline’s Senior Vice-President MRO Services, Zemene Nega.

Ethiopian has been a pioneer MRO provider in Africa for many years. In line with the airline’s Vision 2025 development strategy, its MRO service is being re-organised as a full-fledged semi-autonomous strategic business unit with adequate capacity to serve the MRO demand in the region.

The MRO unit, Ethiopian MRO, aims to become the leading MRO service provider in Africa, Zemene added. Accordingly, massive work has been undertaken to build the necessary MRO infrastructure and to train adequate, qualified and certified technicians and engineers.

Ethiopian MRO is using Maintenix, a leading MRO information technology (IT) platform, for all its aircraft maintenance and engineering activities. As a result Ethiopian MRO will use the conference to promote its MRO services and showcase its renewed preparations for the business, Zemene said.

Ethiopian MRO, which is certified by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), provides world-class services on Boeing fleet aircraft for many airlines in Africa and elsewhere, according to the statement.
