Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) Construction Commencement to be Marked
Addis Ababa, March 20, 2013 (WIC) – Office of the National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam said the 2nd anniversary of the commencement of the Dam’s construction is to be marked with literary and sport events.
Committee for the literary events of the celebration briefed journalists on Tuesday on the details of the literary events to unfold in connection with the marking of the Day.
Director of Project Management, Environmental Protection and Literary Affairs of the Office of National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on the Construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam, Dr. Mekamu Tadesse said 2nd anniversary of the commencement of the Dam’s construction is marked under the theme: “Meles, your word would be honored, the Grand Renaissance Dam would be realized with public participation.”
The marking of the Day comes at historic time when preparations are made to begin concrete filling by diverting the course of River Nile, he said.
President of the Ethiopian Authors Association, Getachew Belete for his part said the Asssociation has organized a literary evening on 27 March 2013, 5:00 a.m. at the National Theatre, in connection with the anniversary.
Veteran and young writers are to take part in the event that is ready to see literatures written on Abay (Nile) then and now. He said the Association believes it has to contribute its share in national development agendas.
President of the Ethiopian Painters and Sculptors Association, Siyoum Ayalew who is also member of the Committee said art exhibition is prepared in connection with the marking of the Day from 29 March – 4 April 2013 at the National Museum.
He said the Association believes in the contribution of art to development of the nation. The Committee invited the public to attend the events on the scheduled time for free.
According to ERTA, the 2nd anniversary of the launching of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam construction would also be marked at Guba, the site of the Dam, on 2 April 2013.
